Does anyone know the measurements of the small o-rings that seal the caliper halves?
ID?
OD?
One of my '72's front calipers is definitely leaking between the halves. I'd like to obtain the replacements before removing and tearing the caliper down. Why, you ask, don't I seek a warranty replacement? Because I use DOT 5 fluid and I'm sure they won't do anything for me.
Well, don't have the measurements. Sorry. But most O ring master kits would likely have a suitable replacement. Break one down and run to the auto parts or a good bearing and seal shop. match it up, run home and put it together.
Thinking of course you have alternative transportation.
I too run Dot 5. have for 25 years or more in my 77.
nothing in Dot 5 will destroy that O ring.

Have also run Dot 5, since mid/late '80s, with no problems in my '67. One of the things I've read (though am not sure what to believe any more) is that newer seal materials are not compatible. Zip Products has a blog article about the newer orange hi-temp seals not playing well with silicone fluid. I want to make sure the o-rings I use are EPDM (old school) but haven't checked the local parts stores for composition and am thinking I probably need to order them.
fyi i warranted 2 front calipers recently from 2 sponsor vendors.. lone star...one at a few months and another 11 months .. one year warranty... both were replaced one even paid shipping..BUT they said if the return is non DOT3 they will not honor warranty.
they did mention the leaks they do get were from poor alignment or missing small o rings leaking from the halves.. mine was from pistons on both
I have rebuilt about 20-30 of these calipers always use the raybestos brand rebuild kits USA made the rubber is much softer then other brands
always check the aluminum pucks for ware on the edges and corrosion in the stainless sleeves and replace the bleeders they always seem to crush on the ends and make a bad seal
