Custom built for my car's current specifications, company is located about 20 minutes from me, and the owner is all about return business. He builds custom carbs for racers and streeters all over the country. He went as far as to bend new fuel lines and create the double ferrules for me, as I also installed a fuel pressure regulator. My fuel pump puts out 9-10 lbs. of pressure idling, and swings wildly when engine is revved, the regulator let me get it to a stable 5-1/2 lbs.My idle speed is smooth and steady, and I have 20 in of vacuum at idle. Needless to say, all the vacuum operated systems are happy. I sprayed WD-40 into the QJ and boxed it up in case my granddaughter wants to play with it when she gets the car.
Piece of scrap aluminum shaped, drilled and fastened to throttle bracket with a 1/8 in aluminum rivet and a 3/16 stainless rivet. Also shows the custom throttle cable retainer, from 2 pieces of scrap metal welded together, including a spring bracket Shows the fuel regulator mounted to the back of the A/C pump bracket, and the custom piping from regulator to carb. The front piece of putty measures 7/8 in clearance between hood and air cleaner lid. The back piece is over 1-1/2 in. This is a 1 in drop pan air cleaner
That’s pretty good clearance. I have what appears to be the same air cleaner on a stock L-48/ Quadrajet ‘71 base coupe and my play-doh was squashed more than that.

This car is a 71, and the QJ has thick gasket under it, maybe a 1/4 in. This carb has a very thin gasket between it and the manifold, which helps.
Nice install.....and definitely a solution.....
There are some great custom carb builders out there.....I have heard CCS does good stuff.....
Only thing I would have done since you have the clearance is a 1/4" phenolic/wood 4 hole spacer to beat the heat.
