I have not bought anything exhaust related over the counter in a number of years. My last 2 systems were custom built. I am bringing in a 77 to my garage for a redo. First I am putting in all new suspension, complete brake system overhaul and then installing a Borgeson steering. Next fall he wants a 400 to 450HP 383 installed with a Tremec 5 speed. Currently a 350 and Turbo 350. He would like to put on a set of headers now with new exhaust and be able to use it with the newer combo in the fall. I have always used Hooker comp headers with 1 5/8 tubes for mild builds like this. They fit well and get the job done. Are there any good fitting exhaust systems with decent sound out there over the counter? Or does he bit the bullit and get a custom system bent up. I know the 77 has the goofy crossmember but I can change that to run decent dual exhaust like the early C3 cars.

In '77 there was still the 2-hole crossmember, even though the left side hole wasn't used.
The crossmember didn't change until '80.
Corvette Central sells a couple of complete exhaust systems with headers...

Thanks, I do remember having a 78 in my garage now that had the 2 hole. Could not remember when they changed. I'm getting old I guess.
I just put the Pypes 2-1/2" SS, mandrel bent system on my 76 with long tube headers. It fit very well, includes and X-pipe and polished turn downs from the mufflers. Choice of 3 mufflers with the kit, or buy it without and choose something else, I went with their Violator mufflers.
As far as headers, I guess it all depends on what heads you are using. I could not find an over-the-counter header with 1 5/8 " primaries that would fit my 1991 L98 factory aluminum heads and the '77 frame. The exhaust ports in the L98 heads are both D shaped and higher then most other factory heads. This is a TPI engine. I settled on Comp Cams 1 3/4" Super Comps and they fit perfect. The larger diameter primary size does not bother me, in fact this is the header TPiS recommends for TPI 350's. No interference with Borgenson steering box. Same thing for the right side. I did have to fab up some custom header pipes to connect to the rest of the exhaust system, but that was easy. And there you have it; a full length 3" mandrel bent exhaust system that fits like it was designed for this application!

Did you use the ones with the converters also or did you ditch the converters. That plays a big part in pricing.
A member has a complete Pypes system for sale right now in the for sale thread......$350....previously installed too.....would be a fairly easy install.

Thanks for the lead. This is what I was looking at for his car. Just sent him the link. That is a great price.
