I have been looking at a number of '72 coupes online and the side chrome grilles are painted, not chrome. The ones on mine are chrome/black. What color are they supposed to be? One car on eBay advertises it to be 14k original miles, but the side grilles are painted (i'm talking the ones right behind the front wheels, not the side front grilles).
I'm a newbie owner of a '72, only had it a couple weeks. Trying to learn all I can. T his place has been great!
My car is currently red, but was original Steel Cities Grey. Is the paint used on the grilles always the same color as the car? The ones on my car now actually have black in the grille area. Should it be Red (if the car is red) or Grey when I paint it back to original?
Painted with Chrome edges is correct but it depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you are trying to restore the car to correct specs then painting is the way to go. If not, then go with what you like. I have seem many that have been chrome plated. They look awesome. I am having mine chromed in the spring. They are already chrome but have been pitted over the years so Im am having them re-done. I have a White 71 conv. The Chrome louvers really stand out from when they were white..
