I have one of those rubber push in type oil fill caps. Seems that with time and heat it has shrunk up and no longer fits snuggly. I'd really like to save it if at all possible. I remember reading on here awhile back that someone else had the same problem and the answer was to soak it in something.
But I can't remember what. Any idea's out there on how to get this old rubber plug to "Freshen up"?
To soften up old Carb-to-Cylinder Head Boots on my Honda V-4s, Oil of Wintergreen does the job for easier installation. Might work for you, but if it weakens the rubber to the point of coming apart, well, you don't want any crumbs in the crankcase plugging things up of course.
old rubber is old rubber. anything you do to soften it will finish it off. a couple of laps with electrical tape will work but need to be replaced frequently. new rubber bushing in valve cover will also help.

You might try an engine oil stop leak product. Some are designed to swell rubber seals to help stop the leak. AT-205 is one I've used here in the up above. Don't know if you can get it down under. It's hard to find here at the moment as most sites show it back ordered until well after the first of the year.
