Default Speedometer Not Working…after…

Hi Everyone.

I had tranny fluid leaking from the speedo housing on the tranny. Ordered some new seals, and a new gear, just got it today and installed today. Now my speedometer is not working. Leak is fixed though!

I’ve never changed this out on the car before, have I missed something putting it back together? Thoughts?

Well, son of a gun.
I bought my speedo gear from zip corvette.
states it fits an auto for 73. The gears are facing right, my original are facing left. See pics for reference. Why the difference?

Left facing

Right facing

You have to be sure the gear inside the trans matches the speedo gear. There is a range of speedo gears that the inside gear matches up with. The backwards gears must be an issue with the exact trans you have vs speedo gear. My speedo was 4 mph off. I was able to purchase a different speedo gear to correct my speedo.

put your old gear back in. it wasn't broken or the cause of the leak.

i had thought about putting it back in. Buuuutttt…the end is a little worn, where it goes through the seal, so I figure I should just change it while the housing was out for o-rings. 🙂

Now the housing is coming out again…lol, can’t believe the bone head move of putting in a gear with gears facing wrong way!!

You just need to go faster in reverse.
Maybe they sent you a TH350 gear?
