Corvette central has complete exhaust kits that fit well. Just know what diameter pipe you want and look through the options for your year. Headers all the way to mufflers
The problem with your question is the last part about breaking the bank.
Lots of guys on here happy to spend your money.
But we have no idea of the size of your bank.
If it's like my bank. Then wrapping over the holes with old soup cans and hose clamps will have to do.
If you have a bit more than me.
Ceramic coated long tube headers and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust system with a X pipe and your choice of mufflers.
I run the Chambered exhaust. It sounds wonderful!
(Read loud).
give us an idea of the bank in question.
Perhaps we can help more.
If you do not have the budget for ceramic coated headers.....don't buy anything til you do. Vette's hold a lot of heat underhood......uncoated headers add to this greatly. There is about a 300 degree difference between coated and uncoated at the tube.
For C3's I prefer the Hedman brand......I have had better luck.
For exhaust....I like the Wilcox chambered system......I installed one years back on a 69' and it fit perfect and sounded awesome......
I have found that summit racing brand headers(get the ceramic coated ones) are a good fit, hold up well, and are more affordable than many other headers.
Ceramic coated headers and custom bent duals and mufflers with h- or x-pipe and you are probably looking at $1,000-1,500. If you can get a complete set, you may save some $$$.
Stainless is also more prone to cracking. Really depends on the thickness and quality of the Stainless.
Ceramic coated also will not rust as long as it doesn't get damaged. And it will hold in the heat.
If the Ceramic coated where 50 dollars more. I would still buy the Ceramic coated.
Just my 2 cents.
