Default 1980 steering wheel wiring issue

I have a tilt & telescopic steering wheel on my 80 and trying to remove the plastic pc. as shown. Unplugged the wiring harness from under dash but both the plastic pc. and metal column won't come off. Want to make sure the wiring is completed as the ignition switch isn't working - was bypassed with a toggle switch to start. Any ideas?

So is there a key switch in the column ?

FWIW the key switch rotates a mechanism inside the column that pushes a rod that comes out of the column tube and pushes on the electrical ignition switch which is actually mounted on the top of the column about half way down the tube. All the ignition wiring/accessory power comes to/from that switch which is under the dash board

FWIW, If I remember correctly, there was a screw that had to be uncovered by clicking the directional switch? Also, the wires make it difficult to pull the plastic directional piece free. The wires need to be disconnected from the bottom so there is slack enough to pull them through the column..... Hope this helps you.

I already removed the ig. switch but want to remove the plastic pc. I disconnected the wire bank under the dash that goes to in the column but unable to pull it out. I assume that the reason I can't remove the column, that is loose, is because it has a tele & tilt wheel.

Here is an ideal picture of the harness: https://www.ebay.com/itm/15481054384...gAAOSwfqlhEzXg
You can see that all you need is to pull/slide it

Thanks but is there a way to remove the metal column as the turn signal lever broke off when trying to remove it? Also, unable to pull the wiring harness out thru the top of wheel.

On my 73 with Tilt/tele the “Harmonica” connector needed to be removed from under the dash (on the steer column. Check out Willcox Technical section for step by step instructions.
