Hi,
I am considering trying to fix the alarm system. First step I need to do is remove and reinstall the alarm lock at the back of the car. Anyone have any experience remvoving and reinstalling this lock? It seems to be in a difficult area to access. Do I have a chance to pull this off?
To get at the switch, lower the spare tire bucket and take the spare out. Then you need to lay inside the bucket and you can get to the switch. I don't remember5 if you have to take out the upper part of the bucket. Even easier if you totally remove the bucket but very often the front long bolts are rusted into the frame. If they are, don't put too much torque on them because you can break the nuts welded inside the frame loose and that's something you do not want to have happen. The switch is attached by a simple bezel nut which may or may not be rusted in.

So heres the reality of the car alarm I got mine working perfect on my 70 , had to replace the relay in the jack box ,replaced the horn under the car ,replaced the key switch ( if you can find the real brigs&stratton one home run) ,, then you have to check all the switches cause they will corrode in the door jams and under hood if you have them there,, all years are different I found that you can change the pins on the switches its time consuming ,, So now the Alarm works and heres the big BUT if the car alarm goes off for a extended period of time it will completely discharge your battery so now I just pulled the relay off the system and turned the alarm totally off ,, if you want theft control put a push button battery switch somewhere under the dash the car wont move
Did I tell you I got it working perfectly,, LOL you cant even make this up and if someone tells you anything else on here they must have a back up battery
This is why I was telling you to jump the 2 wires together and see if it works first then you would just need the key switch and nothing more or you could end up spending 200 on parts and a bunch of time for a half *** alarm system that drains your battery .. don’t get me wrong if someone ask me if it works on my car it would only take me 15 seconds to hook the relay back up it’s only a plug
Removed the flasher and gounded the connector and horn works. The flasher and relay are pretty crusty, will try to clean them up, might need to replace. The wires to the key switch are broke off so need to remove the key switch to see what is going on with that.
