Default Steering Column to Transmission Cable Question

I am tearing down my '73 big block TH400 coupe for a body off restomod project.
I will be removing the TH400 and replacing it with a TKO600 manual.
I found a steel cable in a steel braided housing that runs from a bracket attached to the steering column and runs to the shift linkage on the drivers side of the TH400 transmission.
Can someone tell me what this cable is for and if I will need it to attach to my TKO600 manual transmission?
I attached a photo of the cable.
The black cable in the photo is the speedometer cable.
Thanks

interlock cable so that you cannot move the shifter out of park unless the key is turned.

I think it's the other way around: can't remove the key unless the trans is in park or reverse for a manual, trans. No, you don't need to re install it. Just secure the lever on the column in the "up" position. I used safety wire to secure mine.

With the interlock cable properly installed, does it also act to not allow the car to be taken out of Park or Reverse without the key turned on? Asking for a friend.

I'm replacing my oem steering column with a new Ididit steering column.
I'll have to call Ididit, because I ordered my column for a manual transmission due to the swap.

On a manual, yes. Can't say on an auto.

Dont mean to hijack.
Anyone have a good clean method of keeping the steering column unlocked after removing the cable? I just have a piece of wire
holding it now.
Thanks

No worries!
Now your making me think.
There was a thread about this very issue several years ago.
I don't remember who posted the thread, just that there were several members who did several different things to secure the steering column from dropping into the locked position.
Most of the members commented that they just used wire to hold it in place, but there were some who did it differently
I'm sure if you start a new thread, you would get several comments back.

Guys, I have upgraded to a 700R4 and am having similar issues with my steering lock cable. The original pan bracket no longer is compatible. Shiftworks Inc,, who usually makes all things needed to upgrade transmissions in C3’s, appears to have everything EXCEPT this particular bracket, I would like to maintain this feature on my Vette rather than disconnect. Do you know of anyone making this bracket?

1976 Vette

Are the 73 TH400 and 76 brackets the same?

if it's a TH400, then i would assume that the brackets would be the same.

well my 72 was originally a TH400 car, then I swapped in a 700R4 and just welded the little bit extra on existing bracket as pictured above

Many people are doing it the same as you.
I do remember a thread several years ago where there was a discussion regarding this very question.
If I remember correctly another member came up with a bracket fix better than wire.
I don’t remember the thread or who was participating.
You may want to start a new thread and ask to get some good responses.
