My dads 75 shuts off when hot like turning off the key.
new plugs, plug wires, distributor, cap, rotor, coil, fuel filter, and carb.
fuel lines from pump to carb are insulated, spacer between carb has been installed, fuel return line from pump to tank is hooked up. No hissing sound when removing the fuel cap after it dies for vapor lock check
When it dies i work the throttle on the carb and can see fuel squirt down the intake.
used a timing light to check for spark after it dies light does not flash when trying to restart.
Let it sit for a minute and cool off starts up till it gets hot and shuts off
You have HEI ignition system. You have a module under the rotor.
You did not mention the "modge" as a replacement part.
They (modges) have a bad habit of failure around 60,000 miles, or sooner with low quality replacements. The circuits inside the modge expand with heat thereby opening a circuit. After it cools down, the circuit is complete again, fires right up again.
When installing the new unit, it is imperative to apply Heat-Sink-Compound to the bottom of the modge. Some of the better units come with this paste. Others do not.
Shop around for quality. Throw the old unit behind the seat for an emergency spare.
After 10 minutes of idle in the driveway mine would sputter off. Cool down and then restart.
I wont leave the house without the tools in the storage to replace one on the side of the road if it ever happens again.
I'm jumping on the ignition module bandwagon here too. Definitely carry a spare and a few tools so this can be changed on the side of the road at any point.
Had that module fail a couple times now.... I carry a spare also. found a NOS ac delco module on ebay new. like this one https://www.ebay.com/itm/32137912014...0AAOxyPLpRe1TA The quality of the replacements these days seems to be very hit or miss
When my module went south, the only problem was the engine wouldn't restart when hot. Once it cooled down, it would restart and continue running. It never shut down once running.
Had that once after I replaced the ignition coil and module. Turned out to be a bad coil. I sent it back to Pertronix under warranty and they sent me a run tested replacement. It happens.
