What is the best spring to replace my aging original spring with?
You can take your original spring to a truck repair shop and get it re-arked and new rubbers installed and you car will sit at the correct ride height.
VanSteel is shipping low-arch springs again. They bought the molds from VB&P when they went out of business.
I'd give them a call for advice on spring rate, and if you need to shorten the spring for your application. I am VERY happy with my NOS VB&P spring, though I'd get the next stiffer spring if I were to order new.
Just for consideration, these are the items I faced when deciding to do coil over rear. The shocks were toast, all the bushings and trailing arm stuff needed replaced, and my stock multi-leaf spring was sagging. It was more $$$ but since I was doing a sort of rear end rebuild, I decided to go with Van Steel new offset trailing arms with rear single adjustable rear coil overs and adjustable struts. Was a very straight forward R&R as I also rebuilt the brake system. No more leaf spring. Food for thought.

tried that route below..
local spring (mostly trucks) and Eaton said they will not do it and one said they broke last spring and it would not last..
i will be putting my 6 leaf back in as it is not terrible but will need to replace eventually or fix..when i get my rear end back in..
Adjustable dual-mount spring costs a little more, involves a little more install work, but functions as an anti-sway bar as well. Lots of previous posts on dual-mount spring. I went with 500 coil springs in front(which you already have); Bilsteins all around; feels great for road cruising. Re-arched the spring on my other car and then had to install longer bolts to get it low enough. Coil-overs better but $$ and then you’ll want new wheels as well.
My original Gymkhana spring lost its arch back in the mid 90's. Replaced it with a VB&P spring back then. Running it with Bilstiens made for lowered car and glass spring.
Great combo. One of the best mods I've ever done to the car.
I went to a fiberglass spring from VB&P years ago. Vastly superior to the steel spring in every way. They haven't been available for a number of years now, but I hear Van Steel is making them again. If that is true, it's a no brainer. Get the fiberglass spring.
