Mark, I liked the T2 thing... The bottle is a 5lb 3000PSI steel vessel that I use to calibrate pressure switches and transmitters in the field. It will be mounted under the car on the frame in the rear. A 1/4" SS braided hose will be routed on the frame up to the intercooler outside the cars interior. I did think of using CO2 but I have ready access to nitrogen (free). Your right, I could probably just use the gas and mount the bottle upright; I'll have to see...

Norval, You don't want to contain it unless you have the appropriate pressure vessel. I'm sure you know if you compress a gas enough it will liquefy. When I get my bottles filled there is usually about 1/4 liquid at the bottom, just like the propane cylinder on your gas grill...

TitaniumRat, I work with it quite often and its safe. You just need to be aware of the dangers associated with a compressed gas. Actually, there are more dangers associated with nitrous. :yesnod:

Pull the trigger, open the valve, shoot your buddy in the *****.

Ben
, I'm not ever going to play paint ball with you  and yes I'm crazy...

thing to consider is the negative metallurgical effect of the liquid nitrogen on your aluminum intercooler. I can't help but think it will lead to cracking.
Monty, I've thought about that and it's a big concern. I was hoping the 0.030" holes would limit the rate of flow and meter the expansion of the gas or temperature drop across the intercooler. I will need to try it and change the size of the holes to get the temp drop I want. The tubing manifold will be 1" away from the intercooler and the holes will spray parallel to the intercooler surface which should prevent localized spots. This way the fans can suck the cool gas through the core evenly. As you know anything you do like this is a trial by fire and we learn from our mistakes. I just thought it would be different and I like different. I also liked the fact that I could have a cold spray anytime I wanted without the ice and water hassle. The bottle, hose and solenoid would weigh no more than a typical nitrous system.

Thanks for the feedback guys. It might not work but I’ll give it a go…

We use nitrogen cylinders at work to recharge hydraulic system acumulators. If I'm correct I've never seen a bottle that didn't have a pop off valve located on the manual valve. this allows the bottle to vent in case of over pressurization. As far as carrying one in my car, I don't know about that. You would be carrying a bottle charged to 3000 PSI with a regulator on it. In the event you have an accident you would basicly have a missile in the back with 3000 PSI of boost.

A lot of guys spray their intercoolers with C02 (from a fire extinguisher) before they go down the strip. If you think you can get it to work, more power to ya.
Schmucker, Thanks..

Twin Turbo & Monty, I thought about it and your right, I don't need the liquid and I'll give the gas nitrogen a try first. Besides Monty hit the nail on the head but it just took awhile to sink in. I'll probably have all the power I need with just the intercooler. I'll use the gas with a regulator actuated by solenoid and adjust the flow that way. Anyway, I searched online and it seems the ricers have already done it this way. I thought I was doing something new, Oh well...

I'm with Norval we would carry the 3-4 gallons of liquid Nitrogen in thermal pales and dump them in 250 gallon tanks then we would bolt on the access plate as fast as we could. We would vent off the first little bit to purge the tank and then the pressure would rise to @4000 lbs. They were used to displace the air for fir suppression.

Any humidity would be instant ice on the discharge piping.

Out at bonneville salt flats air to liquid intercoolers are the norm. I've seen both ice and dry ice stuffed in to super cool the intake air.
