Hi guys and gals, I'm trying to remove the under-hood heater core cover on my 1980 Corvette. As I was wrenching the nut off the stud that is below the blower motor, the stud snapped! I have a 1980 Corvette AIM, and on page 137 (sheet 15) it shows what I think is the stud in question. (I can't get a good look at it on the firewall because I still have a couple of nuts to remove before the cover will come loose) Unless I am way off base here, the stud is held to the firewall with a couple of rivets, and I'm thinking that if I can get my hands on one I can maybe just pop-rivet it to the firewall in order to attach the new ac delete cover later. The AIM refers to it as a "bracket asm" (assembly?) So, two questions: Am I on the right track? And, where can I get my hands on one of these things?
Once you get the cover off, you should be able to better assess what needs to be done.
Do you have a 100% show quality original Vett that would warrant the hassle and $$ of making it "correct"?
I'm sure you'll be able to find a solution that will work--nutsert, bolt, etc.
I had one of those studs snap on me as well. About halfway down. There were still usable threads, so I utilized something like the photo shown to snug up the blower housing under the hood.
It's neat and functional. Beats dealing with drilling out and riveting on a new stud under the dash.
