Clutch forks for dummies
The problem? Engine wouldn't go in(yeah), but it was due to the clutch fork, and my improper install of it.
For the ball joint on the clutch fork, does that fork-shaped spring go UNDER the ball, thus the little fork is between the ball and the ball's mount point?
This, if it(The whole fork unit) is installed correctly, it won't flop around and fall off by itself?
I'm referencing a GM Truck Haynes manual and that appears to be it(little fork between ball & surface).
I want to double check before I hoist er up again.
suggest posting your year etc.. and getting a factory shop manual.
also post up pics of your question.. if i hear you right, the ball goes under to hold it.. it slides on..
The 2 long fingers on the spring holds the fork on the pivot ball.
The fork has 2 more spring clips that apply tension to the slot in the bearing. The fork and spring tabs both ride INSIDE the bearing slot. DO NOT place the bearing in the fork with the spring clips outside the bearing slot.
Once the bearing is loaded in the fork, and the the transmission input shaft is installed, the transmission will prevent the fork from falling off the pivot. You can't remove it because it will be captured.
