Default Reverse lights wiring

Hi all,

72 BB manual transmission.
I was working on some other stuff that required the center shifter console to come off, and decided to look at why my reverse lights aren't working.

I have Doc Rebuilds elec diagrams for my car, but need a little help on where to find all those connectors in the car.

In the attached pictures you see some connectors mounted at the shifter base, in addition to the green + pink wire that wasn't connected to anything.

I'm curious if that needs to be connected to anything, or if it's an unused wire on the harness (for an automatic, maybe)?

If it's not important, where to start troubleshooting the reverse lights?

Thanks,
Tim

I think those are the wires to the switch.

I found the reference. The pink and green connector next to your gear shift, is for an automatic car, not used for the manual. Tape it up and forget it.
Go under the car and remove the switch on the side of the trans. It unplugs. Make sure you keep track of the way it is connected to the shifter mechanism and the tiny pins that connect the little bar that operates the switch. These switches fail all the time. Test the switch.
You can test the backup lights by unplugging the pink/green connector and make the connection with a small wire.
You can also test the switch while it is on the car.

I don’t want to start any drama I’m pretty much drama free but this plug is used for your manual trans

I agree. From that plug the green/pink wires go to the switch on the side of the trans. When I replaced the switch, the wire was already cut and spliced close to the switch, so I just installed it as it was. I am not sure from there into the firewall where the wire goes.
EDIT:
The pink goes to the fuse panel and the green goes to a connector junction under the dash. At least on the 1968.
