Default 1968 Wiper Motor Help

I installed a new wiper motor in my 68. My problem is, when I turn off the switch it stops the blades in the up position as it would when I use the wiper service switch to change the blades. It's like it parks 180* off. It does not park in the down position. Any input would be helpful. Is there a chance I clocked the cam assembly 180* out. Not sure if it's possible 🤔.
Thanks in advance.

The Willcox Vendor sight has some great videoes on troubleshooting wiper problems!
It takes a few mi utes to locate the videoes though...worth the trouble.

I should have stated. I am aware of Wilcox troubleshooting. I performed a full nut and bolt restoration over 9 years on this car. Through that time one is exposed to most common approaches. My bad. I do appreciate you input. Thank you.

Does it just shut off or is the park position on the windshield. If it just shuts off there is an issue with the motor. If the ipers slo and stop in the same spot every time then its a linkage issue. Can you post a pic or a video?

yes when I shut off the wiper switch, the wipers stop on the windshield., the motor is brandnew and stops in the park position but wipers are up.. I'm going out today and try and clock the cam 180*. I just don't know if this is something you can do.

What about the wiper arms them selves. Is there a cam slot on those or can you pull them off and move them down to the corrected park position and reinstall? Obviously there has to be something in the linkage that isnt right

If it was spriing I would just drive my 68 over and we could compare linkage side by side

Something to try...
To me it sounds like the wiper motor was NOT in it's home position when you connected the crank arm to the motor.
Take the nut off the crank arm, remove crank arm from motor.
Cycle the wiper motor on/off so you are sure motor has stopped in it's park or home position.
With wiper blades in there home position re-attach the crank arm to wiper motor.

either there is a problem with or wrong wiper motor, wired incorrectly, or problem with override switch
the wiper arms basically go on one way, 68 wiper motor and wiring is unique and complicated

BMOTOJO hit the nail on the head. The wiper motor can go in the lever two ways. Turn off the wiper, disconnect the motor, manually park the blades, re-attach.

For others, BEWARE.... 1968 wiper motor is wired different than 1969, and a lot of non '68 motors are being SOLD AS 1968's - ebay, Amazon, etc. As others state, SEE WILCOX.

I appreciate all the input. Thank you. I had the attachment arm or cam the bolts to the motor 180 out. My bad. Now I am having a problem adjusting the passenger side wiper. When it parks the wiper stays a bit high. I did follow adjustment procedures but it won't stop low enough. It stays a bit high. I can push it down to close the the wiper cover. I've been adjusting the linkage as well as the wiper arm itself. Gotta love these cars.

Are you testing the wipers with the windshield wet?? Its in the AIM under the adjustment section so they move easily. You have the adjustable arms at the middle of the arm?

I did read to wet the window but I did not. I did wash it. Probably doesn't count. I did have the thought that a wet windshield would aid in rhe wiper closing in the park position. I have been playing with the adjustment screw on the arm. I will wet the windshield and cycle. Yhanks.

I do believe the 68 wiper arms are one year only. I am not sure but i did have an arm issue when i first got my car and had to buy the correct wiper arm. I only remember it because I thought it was ridiculous

Just found a original pair on ebay for 60.00. They are a little different than the ones on my car. Thanks for the head-up.

I went through this on a customers 72' and it was down to two things.....having the thin original style wiper blades and the transmission having too much slack......

Are you sure it's a wiper motor for a 68? The 68 windshield wiper mechanism, electrically and vacuum-hose wise, is different than the 69 through 72's.

the blades only effected them from getting under the door on my car, not here they parked. Hopefully it isnt that the wiper mechanism is worn
