I took a shot at removing my rear calipers so I can drill out my rotor rivets to eventually overhaul my e-brake. The bolts are so hard to get to because the hard brake line is like right in the way. I can get a socket on the top bolt but can't get a ratchet on it because of the line and I can't even get a socket on the bottom one. Do people remove the brake lines? Is there a trick I don't know?
You can gently bend the lines a small bit to aid getting to the bolt heads... or, just remove the hard lines from the calipers and hose connections and know you'll have to bleed the brakes later on. As I recall, I've had to use a short (3"ish) extension on the socket so the ratchet head will clear the trailing arm and caliper housing.
Mine were so tight I needed a breaker bar and cheater.
I was able to fit a 3/8 extension and socket past the hard line, then adapt it to a 1/2" breaker bar.
yes, i have to remove mine..a good time to buy a new steel line as well.
I am sure it can be done as others say, but i have not found a way. Very hard to get back in too..
i think on mine i even have to remove the rear sway bar bracket but it's been a while.
