As the title suggests, I have a problem with my PCV. I know this seems like an elementary question, please bear with me, it's puzzling me a little and I could use a little help. When I connect my PCV to my carb my idle increases to the point that I can't control it. It is usually the opposite. Does this mean the PCV valve is bad or should I look at something else? I have the valve plugged at the carb now but the blowby is driving me nuts! I use synthetic vegetable-based oil (racing oil) and a lot of blowby is created. The motor is a 383 with an Edelbrock 800 carb. The breather was advertised to have a built-in PCV valve. I plan to run a catch-can with the 434 as well as different motor oil. I will include a pic of the simple way I currently have it hooked up (basically, from the valve cover breather directly to the carb). - I will have to add the pic in a little while, everything is running at a snail's pace around here.
Ahhh, here we go....
Please pardon me, it isn't very clean. It's coming out in about 4 weeks - I just have to finish my carport - then it's on.....
If you go 434 get yourself a vacuum pump .. Its one item that not only adds HP with out any consequences. But it also ensures a long seal life on all gaskets. By eliminating blow by pressure in the crank case.
That breather "PCV" is probably wide open......put a real PCV valve in it and monitor.
Put some standard oil in it and run the hell out of it......rings do not seal well on synthetic oil.....
I'm not exactly sure how I ended up with 'two' of the exact same post topics....this post should have been a part of the original..Could the narrators please add this to my original post and delete the duplicate? For those following, please pardon me for my error and have a look at my original post by the same title.....Sorry,
