Coming down to the end of this build on the 77. I have a set of Hooker comp headers and we acquired a Pypes system that we thought would work. As you can see this system does not pinch in at the camber bracket. The pipes will hang down way to low if you run it this way. The pipes come straight back but should pinch in. I see Corvette Central has a syste that looks like it tucks up in the camber bracket. David H sent me a picture of his and it looks like it tucks up nicely. NAyone else have any other options besides going to a full custom system?
I have a 77. I've run my Chambered exhaust for over 25 years now. They are routed just like yours in the photo. The places I have hit down are NEVER right there where they go under the suspension. That lines right up with the wheels.
I think your over thinking this.
And yes my car is lowered. Not stupid lowered, but not stock. Up front is where they hit the ground. Right behind the header's.
Here is what a properly built system should look like. X pipe and the pipes are bent in at the camber bracket. Plenty of ground clearance. Of course this is a total custom built system that I had AR racing build. Pricey but none better.
I think your trying to compare Apples...to pick any other fruit...
Your custom exhaust is just that, custom...
Someone spent some time building that system.
I can tell just by the heat signature (except flange's) of those welds (most of them anyways) the tubing was properly purged resulting in a sanitary weld inside that probably looks better than the outside weld.
A non purged weld will result in what is called a surgared weld...
