Yes, my car has the EGR on it. I'll check it out when the carb comes off for replacement. I guess thats something that one would only know if they had seen it happen. thanks for the info.
No one has mentioned the Ecklers rebuitl Q-J #A5928. Does anyone have any experience with this.
Is the Edelbrock 1902 the exact same as a Q-J, and comes recommended also?
I'm in the process of installing a newly rebuilt Q-Jet on an Edelbrock Performer on my 79. The Q-jet seems to be more complicated to tune, but I don't want to sacrifice economy. Economy on a Corvette, you say??? I also drive a 71 El Camino with an Edelbrock Intake and Carb. Although it smokes, on a good day, I get 12-13 mpg.

Thanks for the link. The Q-J seems to have won that competition, but I don't plan or setting my idle to 650rpm or climing rocks. It looks as though, for relative performance the Performer or Holley take the prize according to that shootout.
Did you buy your rebuilt carb already rebuilt, or did you have your original one rebuilt for you?
I bought the Carb from a guy who had just had it rebuilt. He didn't like wrenching on it and new holleys quite well, so he sold this one. The Q-jet that was on my 79 worked well, but it was way nasty and wasn't the one that was supposed to be on the car.

I was just checking the number on my carb.
My black book tells me it should be 704421
The 704 = 1970-1975
The 4 = 1974
The 2 = 4bbl
The 2 = Chevy (0,1,2 = chevy)
The 1 = Manual (odd manual, even auto)
But my carb is #7044208
A quick decode tells me that this carb is from a 1974 245hp Auto Camaro.
So much for having the original carb. http://www.quadrajet.com
Damn camaro parts must be slowing this thing down.
