I need to refinish the the outer parts of my steering column. I'm looking for a paint, not a dye, that is formulated for metal. I need for it to match Trim code 425 Dark Red Oxblood 1973-1975. Thank you.
the spray paint dye they sell at the corvette parts, is basically just standard spray paint with flex additive added so it doesnt flake/rub off easily on softer surfaces.
You can use that paint on hard surfaces by properly prepping it.
clean and sand the surface and use a primer. scuff the primer coat and apply a few medium coats of color coat "dye".
let it fully dry and apply a regular semi gloss clear to give it a hard coat protection..
Ive done this on my column /horn button using corvette america rattle can paint. and krylon/valspar primer clears.
I've used Kolor Korrect-Your Source For Classic Car Paint for paint to restore a Mopar steering column.
Mopars used a textured "suede" finish on instrument panels and steering columns to reduce glare.
They put it into a spray can and the color match and finish was perfect.
I'm sure they could help you.
