Put on on your vette if it was available. I see them on that "High Rev blow up you Motor" show and they look pretty cool. Are they a big sticker or what? :D
Our hoods are already pretty light. I don't think there would be a reasonable cost/benefit ratio, at least in the performance paradigm. As a cool factor on the underside
No....too ricey.....Our hoods are very light to begin with and knowing the aftermarket industry, they would charge a bundle for a CF Corvette hood.
John
I would not install one....our hoods are very light already....For our Vette's the carbon fiber would only add to our bragging rights.....I have other parts I want that will cost way below the cost of one of these hoods. :seeya Cappy

If the price was reasonable I would do it. I had a carbon fiber hood for a new mustang to demonstrate to the class, It was unbelieveable light. You could hold it out in one hand.
While you say our hoods are pretty light it still takes 2 of use to handle it.
I see guys spending over $1000 on light weight calipers, why not a hood???
I think a carbon fiber in a L-88 style would be pretty cool looking. probably the last thing you'd expect to see on a old C3 would be a carbon fiber hood. May be a little to ricey for most people though.
Real carbon fiber?.....No way, Its corrosive and conductive. The aviation industry knows this, maybe the automotive industry is about to learn the hard way (unless they don't use real carbon fiber).
Perhaps a better solution would be kevlar. Think of the weight savings if someone made kevlar reproduction panels. The thing is, even if the price was reasonable, very few would buy them. I just don't see a market for it. Most people either want originallity or aren't willing to do that much work to replace everything. Factory fiberglass is very heavy compared to what could be had with some good composites.
I remember a thread semi-recently where a carbon fiber dash was put into a Pantera. If I remember right, the materials alone cost $2500. That seems kindof steep for non-structural CF, maybe it would be less. A hood should be pretty easy to form, it's alot of flatness. Why not do our bodies in aluminum? Just the difficulty of forming?
I read somewhere that aluminum was one of the choices in the beginning for Corvette bodies, but was more expensive than the fiberglass. I'll try to see if I can find out where I read that and post a link.
