Hello All, I'm looking for some help with my new door weatherstrip. I just installed the new weatherstrip and it is leaking (driver's and passengers) near the front of the door above the upper hinge.
I can see light shining through with a flashlight. It is not even touching in that area. Please see the pics.
Do I have junk weatherstrip? (purchased many years ago from Ecklers)
Did I install wrong?
Thanks,No I don't have that piece. But I should have mentioned that I have a '74. that piece was not used on '74s. However I have contemplated getting an extension and putting it on.
I don't think it would ultimately fix my problem though. the extension would stop most of the water but not all. The main seal still needs to have a seal against the hinge pillar and mine does not touch.
It seems I may have too many hinge shims on the upper hinge, which are then keeping the door too far away from the pillar. But if I remove them, then the door will not be flush with the fender...
When I install weather stripping I coat it with a special lube so it can let the high spots slide into position and all the rest. I believe it's call SYL GLIDE.
Then close the doors and let the new seal take a set. Once they take a set , which can take a week I clean them and re coat them with a silicone spray or even PLEDGE.
I would bet that petrolium jelly (vasoline) would do it also. Got to say that I couldn't believe how the rubber molded and formed to shape to the body..
