Default 82 power antenna question

I recently put the original radio back in my 82. after splicing all of the wires back together, I was surprised to see my original power antenna works! However, it works on via the ignition switch. That is the only way it wll go up or down. The radio control ***** do nothing as for as antenna operation. I did splice the yellow antenna wire in with the radio yellow wire that goes into the back of the radio. Should it have been spliced elsewhere? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Did you splice TWO yellow wires at the back of the radio?
Switch them.
Sounds like you have the antenna wired to the radio yellow and the radio wired to the antenna yellow.

The yellow actually goes into the radio for radio power and comes right back out to operate the antenna.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I joined the two yellow wires together and connected them to the yellow lead from the radio push in connector. Where exactly is the yellow wire from the console area go?

Pic is for non power antenna car. Is that how yours is?
Power antenna harness would have another yellow lead below the yellow in the top connector. That bottom yellow would go to the yellow going to the console and antenna.

Do you have the radio out so you can see the top of the case? If so, there is a wiring diagram stamped into the top of the radio case if it is the ETR radio showing the wires as the plug into the back of the radio Here is a pic with the wires location according to the plugs in the back of the radio.
