Don't be fooled by the fact that a 2 1/4" pipe is only 1/4" smaller than a 2 1/2" pipe. It doesn't sound like it would make much difference, but if you do the math, a 2 1/4" diameter pipe has a cross sectional area of 3.97 square inches, while a 2 1/2" diameter pipe has a cross sectional area of 4.90 square inches. That's significant.

This is from a thread in which a flat tappet cam break in went wrong. Another poster had this one go right with the mentioned lifters if this helps you decide which lifters to get.

For what it’s worth, I just built a 350 with hyd flat tappet for a guy this week. I used Howard’s direct lube lifters. They have a small flat milled in the side of the lifter body that lets oil bleed off out of the oil galley down onto the cam. Breakin went smoothly. Looks like a good idea. If I were doing a big block I think I would go with nitrided cam also.

Default Similar Engine Builds.

Steve. I have a 350 w/same 270 HR cam, 1.6 RRs, w/TFS heads Air Gap and a 650 Holly.
It originally put 280 RWHP @5200 and 315 RWTQ @4100.
I wanted a SB that pulls like a BB,
This engine is happy at 2200 rpm and starts getting busy at 3K. 70 mph
I rarely have to go more that 4K

I recently put in new 2.5" ex pypes and 2.5" Rams Horn ex man,
It now puts down 303 RWHP and 330 RWTQ.
Time for a 5 sp!

Back to subject at hand. Here is what I now have an L-82 bored to 360 ci engine with 4 relief flat tops a stage 3 cam ,flowtech full length headers, estreet 5073 heads the original Oem intake and qjet. I went with a 2700-3000 assault stall converter. It starts right up and idles okay. It goes to the exhaust shop next week for the 2 1/2” true duals. My question is how will I know when I have all there is (power) with this setup. 3” element and the hood closes.

Ask the dyno operator.
He does this for a living.
He is not emotionally involved!

agree with your thoughts. I was thinking more along the lines if anyone might know if a different intake or carb combo is going to enhance performance just based on components used. Not really concerned about numbers just how big of a smile it brings me
