Default Water temp sending unit help

Well guys I got the headers on...and boy do they SOUND MEANNN. Running them open and they r loud it sounds like its cammed at idle but its just the stock l82 cam. Very nice will post videos soon. However in the process of installing my header on the driver side i snapped the prong off of the water temp sending unit while removing it .

Anyway so I went to napa to pick up a new one and the “exact fit” was not an exact fit it was a 3/8 NPT size sensor. Returned it and went searching. I understand the 79 L82s came with a 1/2npt sensor (thats what came out of my car) but it seems like every auto parts store and even amazon advertises the 3/8 npt size sensor. However while searching amazon i found this 1/2npt gm sensor and it looks identical to the one that came out of my car...but amazon says it wont fit. Pretty sure it will right? Just dont want to order something wrong.

That will fit if the one you took out is 1/2" npt.

why not just order from Willcox? seems more likely to be correct and otherwise you see that the OEM numbers on that webpage are:

OEM Part Number 8993372 or 08993372:LL

Or order from willcox
https://willcoxcorvette.com/79-80-te...e-sending-unit

or equivalent from Rockauto... https://www.rockauto.com/en/partsearch/?partnum=8993372

and it looks like that part number, 8993372, is correct for the gauge on a 1979 per the gmpartswiki page.... http://gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=97253

Just make sure you order the one for a gauge, as opposed to the "switch" which would be for an idiot light. My local O'reillys carries that equivalent gm part number (using their parts interchange option). I'd probably get it locally just so I can return it if it was wrong. https://www.oreillyauto.com/search/c...e,BWD,Carquest

Okay thank you for the help here this helped clarify the part I need. I would get it from rock auto and wilcox and stuff but sadly I live in canada so wilcox is kind of stupid to buy from due to ridiclous shipping costs and time and buying locally here my only options are NAPA and Lordco which both don't seem to have the right parts. Amazon will get it to me in 2 days and I can return if it doesn't fit.

Get the amazon one and if it isnt accurate get the Willcox adjustable resistor.

It may fit but it won't be accurate. I've been through at least three of them.
