An auto to manual swap I suppose could be done for somewhere in the $2-6k+ range. 4spd or 5 spd. Even 6spds.
Just something to keep in mind.
It has been done many times.
Finding a rust free frame and birdcage is MUCH more important than the trans.
And of course a car you like that speaks to you!
Good luck.
Thanks, everyone. Subsequent to creating the post, I’ve driven 4 C3s, 2 auto and 2 manual. Of the latter, one was a ‘70 350 and the other was a ‘69 427. I was able to drive both with no problem.
then you are a real man. despite being a cute little girl... but Leigh is right. the car condition is everything. and a 4 speed you are gonna wanna swap to 5 or 6 speed eventually anyway. you want it to drive it. and most of that is done in high gear.
I know manual is the most popular answer here but I didn’t want a manual transmission Vette , I wanted a cruiser or daily driver when weather permits and didn’t want to deal with clutch if I’m just out cruising with the wife . When I want to feed my manual transmission hunger I simply get my 4 speed drag car out and go bang some gears
Theres always the option of a hydraulic slave cylinder, changing pedal geometry so you got a soft clutch pedal.
Lots of neat stuff out there these days to give what I call geez options.
Unless youre taking regular long fwy commutes at 70 plus keep the 4 speed...carbd cars dont like being lugged like
many do with an EFI car. Keep it in the "happy zone"....Why some are worried about cruising for an hour or 2 at 3k?
Doesnt hurt a thing. Better than a stereo!
