I have 1980 L48 that I just redid top end on. The front of the oil pan was leaking so I decided to losen things up and drop the pan for gasket replacment. But when I pulled off the pan I found this spring inside of the pan and I don't know what it's from? It might have just been left in there for years but I have no idea. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something if it could belong to something I'm not aware of. Looks like it would fit the oil pump drive shaft?
Only two I can think of would be an oil-pump spring (doesn't really look like one of those) or the fuel pump spring (the one under the arm)
That said, anything dropped in the top can end up down there if it's lucky

Looks to me like it's the oil pump spring. Unfortunately I discovered it after closing things up. Will leaving it out cause my oil pressure to be too low?

Took off the pan again and the oil pump but the spring was in there and the one I found a just a bit wider so I still have no idea where it came from but very lucky it made it to the bottom of the pan without creating and damage.
Only one I know that can make it to bottom of pan is the fuel pump spring. Did, or do you have any problems with the pump.

I pulled fuel pump to change the cam and it looked fine and car is running perfect. I guess this was dropeed in there by previous owner but that would be at least 5 years ago. Very lucky that it never caused any issues.
