I have 2 questions. I am having some finding a deep socket that is deep enought to take off the windage tray main cap bolts. Any suggestions? I also would like to use an 880 block that I have, and use the steel crank and x rods from the original L82. I know I will have to use the rear main seal adapter, but can I use the front timing cover, and balancer from the L82, and will it mate up to the 880 oil pan?

If you have the L-82 block still....keep it. A better piece in my eyes than the 880 and you do not end up with a Frankenstein.....
That said.....the cover and balancer will work fine.....but not 100% on the oil pan....you may need an 87 to 95 pan.....

Ok thanks for the reply. I wouldn't have torn it down in the first place except it had a tap that sounded like a weak lifter, and it started blowing antifreeze out the exhaust pipes. When I pulled the pistons, #8 had a long gouge streak down the cylinder. I was hoping to just hone it and keep the forged pistons. 030 may get it, I dont think I would want to go farther. I took a pic of the streak and if I can figure out how to do it I will post it.
