Default Torque spec?

I have a 79 differential cover. It has 7/16" center spring mounting bolts,,, not the earlier big 9/16" bolts. I know the torque spec is NOT 55 lbs to 75 lbs, but I am not sure what the spec is supposed to be on the 79. I do know they need to be tightened with full weight on the rear wheels.

If you can't find it, I'd go with 75, as that is the same as lug nut torque, and those are 7/16" as well.

I tried the higher end when I thought the range was 55 lbs to 75 lbs..... That number will bend the 4 hole spring plate.

Per the 1978 AIM 35 to 50 lbs feet with weight on wheels for the 4 spring mount bolts

Thank you. That is interesting, a 15 lb range.
I wish I knew why someone put a 78 diff cover on a 68,,,,, instead of a heavy duty one.

A friend had one, found one cheap or he had one lying around. Install 2 shims and your done no need to spend the big bucks.

Part of what I don't understand. I have a 2 1/4 inch wide spring, there isn't enough room on the sides to put in a shim, but is has 7/16" center bolts.
