WOW!!! I'm impressed!!! I figured at least one guy would say "they never built them". I'm humbled before such expertise :D
"While never offered to the public, a total of 43 - 1983 model Corvettes were built. There were so many quality problems with them it was decided to halt production until they could be corrected."

This still leaves the question open where they are... Well - we know about the one at the NCM.. but where are the other ones???
Re: Where are all the 1983 Vettes???? (GrandSportC3)
Wow, I didn't even know that many were made (43). Can you imagine if they did that with the new C6?
So did they sell any Corvettes that year? Did they still have enough of the 82's or did the car cease to exist at a car lot for one year?
As far as I know (and I WILL be corrected if I goof up!), no 1983 year Corvettes were sold to the general public. Perhaps, of the 43 that were built, some of them went back for an upgrade to 1984 specs and a correction of the problems they experienced? Just a guess. Would you be able to tell if it's a 1983 by production date? Would it be late 1982? I dunno.
All 44 1983 pilot cars were assigned 1983 serial numbers.
11 were retained by the Bowling Green plant for assembly evaluations and other tests - and the rest went to engineering for crash tests and other engineering appraisals.
There were problems in BG ramping up for the 1983 model year in late '82 and the 1983 model saw press previews in December 1982. As a result, the general released it in January 1983 as a 1984 model year.
Re: Where are all the 1983 Vettes???? (SuperFast80)
Anyone know what happened to the 1/2 one (they said at the factory, back in '93, that they cut it right down the middle; and that all but those 1 and 1/2 were destroyed).

Re: Where are all the 1983 Vettes???? (Dep)
What happened to the one that was stolen from a parking garage in Atlanta? Was it ever recovered? It may be the one on E-bay, I'd call CID and have it checked before I paid for it!
Now correct me if I am wrong because I only speak from the fading memory.
There were several last minute '82's made to appease someone or orders I am told. The were known for a while as the X cars. Don't ask me why but one of my friends was a GM Factory REP and this was per him.
I have a piece from an X car. I have an '82 rear end assembly from a wrecked X-car. It has something unusual about it, I'll post a picture and see if you can figure out what it is. JIM
