After replacing battery (old one internal short) I noticed the battery lamp was illuminated when switched off. After unplugging the A/B connector the light went out. After further testing noticed the B connector is shorted to the alternator housing. Also, the alternator became very hot when A/B was plugged in. Bad alternator? Any thoughts appreciated.
That may be what damaged you original battery. I believe mine did that once and I found the connector wires were plugged in backwardson the alternator plug. Its been a few years but I bought a second alternator then learned I didnt need it.

augie…my new to me rebuilt alternator runs hot and may be 19 volts at start up. How did you determine the leads were backwards?
Don’t mean to steal thread, but inquiring minds want to know. Thanks!

honestly I dont remember to be sure. I just remember it being the issue.. I fried the voltage regulator in the new alternator with it connected backwards so I rememeber I went to napa and picked up a new one that that was when I realized how easy and cheap they are to repair now I have 2 chrome alternators as I repaired the original too as a spare.
