I had an old Pentium I system with an Epson Stylus printer, and both worked well for awhile. When this Forum was upgraded, the computer tookforever to download anything, so I bought a used Pentium II system (it was cheap and I'm unemployed). I love the system, but now my printer won't print. I used the Epson install CD just like on the original, and it tells me everything's complete, but when I try to print something, I get this grey-box message: "There was an error writing to LPT1 for the printer (Epson Stylus C60 Series). The system can't write to the specified device."
If you're going to attempt to answer this, please make your instructions as simple as possible; I'm a computer moron.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: Computer/Printer help needed - (PartTimeGenius)
Sounds like you have installed it to the wrong port. Go to Start->Printers right click on the printer ( make sure it's the only one there ) and select properties then look to see what port it is assigned to, should be LTP1 if not try to re assign it, if you can't delete the printer and reinstall drivers
Sometimes built-in printer ports (on the mother board) can be set with
the BIOS program to be bi-directional or not. I have had decent luck with
changing the BIOS settings here and getting printers to work.
I can't get any more detailed, since BIOS settings and screens are different
for lots of PCs. Also, are you using the same cable ? The Sylus may require
a high-end bi-directional cable to work correctly.

Re: Computer/Printer help needed - (67HEAVEN)
Was reading about Pentium 1 and 2 and figured the printer was older too and therfore not USB however the Epson Stylus has both connectors so I agree if you are using USB and it is complaining about LPT1 then that is the wrong port, you must connect to USB port and have all drivers etc. installed for USB.
THe only way to change to USB is to delete the printer and when you re-install make sure you install for USB setup.
