1973 accelerator cable change
how much trouble is it to replace the accelerator cable on a 73 coupe? looks like the heat-a/c duct has to be removed-and theres a plate on the firewall-is that bolted or what?carb has a clip holding it to the butterfly.

It's a simple job (at least on my 71"). Remove the one bolt holding the cable flange to the firewall just above where it goes through the firewall. It makes it easier if you remove the pedal assembly from the floor as well (2 bolts). There is a plastic clip that holds the inner, moveable part of the cable to the pedal assembly. Then disconnect the cable from the carb and pull it through. You should be able to remove it w/o removing the A/C duct.

If you don't care to use a factory cable, the Lokar throttle cable is a high quality piece.
Combined with a CSI bracket it's great.

My son did this for me last year.
The HVAC duct did not have to be removed.
The accelerator pedal and rod were removed to allow for easier access to the cable anchoring clip. Once this was removed and the cable was unhooked at the carb and the carb bracket the cable came right out.
The job took less than an hour.
