Go with the ZZ502 cam. It's only about $150, and it's already matched to your existing components. One other thing, I'm not so sure 1.8:1 lifters are a simple bolt in. Could present some problems with the stock springs and other hardware. Call Scoggin maybe.

Wes,

I know you corrected the linkage so that pedal to the floor opens the linkage all the way. But, this does not mean that the vacuum operated secondaries are allowed to open all the way. The spring tension allows/prevents this from happening. You may not see this happen unless the engine is allowed to run at WOT under load. You might try securing the linkage to open the secondaries without the vacuum pod lever. You will bog if you abruptly floor it; but if you ease into the carb with full throttle below say 3000rpm, you should know if this was the problem by the time you hit 6000rpm.

I still think the cam is a little short on duration to allow high rpm fun. The timing is more like that of a 390 horse cam which also ran out of breath by 5500rpm.

Chuck,

My Street Avenger is has mechanical secondaries. I know most of these are sold with vacuum secondaries, but you can get them with mech. I also got rid of the electric choke and choke blade.

**However guys... I'm still a bit confused about these hyd. roller lifters. I already have Gen VI hyd. roller lifters. Why would I need to change them as several of you have suggested? Unless these are something totally foreign to what I'm used to working with, they should not be a wear item like a typical flat tappet lifter...certainly not with <1000 miles like my motor has, or even 100k miles. OEM hyd. roller lifters can last forever.**

It sounds like ORVette has a very good suggestion. Get the ZZ502 cam which will give me another 12^ intake duration, 4^ exhaust duration and a bit more lift all the way around. I think I could use a bit more lift than it offers, but if the lifters are going to pose a problem, then its certainly not worth it.

Most of you feel like the intake is plenty good enough for what I want to do. As I explained to Dep via e-mail... if I was building a 6500+rpm motor, I'd swap it all out and run a solid roller and a hi-rise intake... to maximize the combination. But I'm only trying to add another 300-500 _efficient_ rpm.

I think my issue now is definitely cam related, which was the reason for the thread...but was definitely looking for feedback to see if any of my other components would prevent me from making good power to 6000rpm.

Any other comments are certainly welcome.

I know you decided to stick with the stock manifold, but I didn't see this mentioned anywhere. I think a Torker II manifold will fit under the stock hood.

Brettmc: While it may fit under the hood...it won't fit Wes's engine. The Torker II is for round port heads. Wes has rectangular port.
