Default Horn contact

Can somebody please tell me where the horn contact hits the spring? Is it supposed to be in the center or towards the left like mine is? I know my spring is missing the top part I just need to know where the contact hits the spring. Thank you

Your photo is a little bit less than great.
Here's a pic of the horn contact with the steering wheel removed.

Does this help?

No it doesn't. My picture is as clear as a bell I think of the contact hitting the spring. All I need to know is if the contact is suppose to be over to the left like my picture shows or is it suppose to be right in the middle?

I didn't examine my '72's to that degree of detail when working on that portion of my column, but I would say it should probably be centered more. However! As long as it makes contact it should work, so as long as the L coming from the contact ring is perpendicular to the ring and not bent away, it's more than likely OK. There's really nothing you can do other than bend the L given the predetermined locations of the spring hole and the 3 threaded ring holes. Does your horn not work - why are you asking?

You are missing the plunger. There is a metal plunger with a collar that the spring in question holds above the contact inside the hub. The tab on the horn button contacts this plunger. Depress the plunger, the horn operates. If you look at the other fellow's picture it shows the plunger and collar installed within the hub.

No my horn doesn’t work. I thought it was the horn relay but it wasn’t. So I took off the steering wheel cap and noticed that the spring was missing the part that goes inside of it that touches the horn contact. So I ordered a new spring kit. I just wasn’t sure whether the contact was supposed to hit it right in the center or on the side like mine is. I guess I’ll find out when I put the new spring in if it works that way.Thank you for your help and anybody else that tried to help me. I wonder do I have to takeoff the contact
and shims and stuff to put the new spring in? I can grab the old spring right now with needle nose. Maybe I can get away without having to do all that I know it’s not much but whatever.

You may be able to get away without taking it apart but that spring is held in by a collar (appears red in 4 vetted pics) that is pushed in and then turned about a 1/4 turn to keep in in place.

oh. Okay. Thank you. I didn’t know that you had to turn it. I thought it just sat in there.

well, I blew your photo up. And yes underneath in there I see a bare spring. Sorry on my phone I didn't see that without blowing it up. Yes it looks like your missing the plunger. But as you can see. It is off to the left.
Anyway, Sounds like your getting there.

looks like someone had that apart and missed that the piece went flying... my uncle had someone install a new steering wheel and had the same issue recently.

I finally fixed it. Sorry I should’ve mentioned blowing up the picture. I centered the contact to the spring too. I was off to the left way too much.
