Anyhow, whenever I will dive into that, I will do it once and right then. I will also perform your suggested test then!
I also thought about getting a new hose-set, just in case I find anything in need of replacement (if it's not ony a slipped connection). I don't have to wait for getting the parts from overseas, then (remember: I'm located in Germany)...
Taking off the side panel from the transmission tunnel to get to the HVAC-switch/-connector to test the vacuum from there is piece of cake, though, and next in line for me to check out.

Let me repeat that I extremely appreciate your comments and help!
I should have been more clear,
Remove:
One screw (center right) from the center cluster gauges bezel
Three screws from the upper dash pad
Two screws passenger side inner door jam.
Remove the flasher relay that clips to the dash assembly..
Remove A/C ducting attached vent outlet.
Remove right side dash assembly as a complete unit.
I can remove mine on my 77 with A/C is less then 10 minutes, and that's taking my time...
You seem like you are willing to learn, I don't mind helping others that help themselves...

If and when you pull the side consul panels off, especially the left side and want to try something involving getting all your fan speed available in MAX or NORM A/C selector switch positions let me know.
There were no tries to my question of my post #33...
It's really simple requiring no wire cutting or splicing...

Thanks - I'll let you know then. I always was happy with the ventilation/cooling when it was working, so. let me get there first...

And on your detailed description of how to take off the passenger part of the dash: seems that mine is a bit tighter, as I have to loosen the center gauge cluster (on the top of the dash and on the horizontal/shifter part of it) to free the passenger side with the map pocket...

Update: testing of the hoses at the vac-selector-switch showed the vent-doors opening (not so sure about the required vacuum, but I will have to check that when I have the correct vac-source back up and running) and air flowing through the respective vents... Nice!
I also found that the blower remains on the lowest revs when the HVAC is "off", but comes to life in the other modes (except Max when I instantly get the "full blow" as supposed to be).

So, I'll order a set of vac hoses "just in case" and prepare myself to pull the dash........

Yes, the blower motor is running "ANYTIME" the ignition switch is in the ON position.
It is designed that way to keep fresh air entering the cabin...
