Gas tank sources?

After removing my spare-tire carrier, I found the gas smell that has been driving me nuts. Some DS put a putty sealer on the leading edge of the tank to cover an apparent pinhole leak. Putty is saturated with gasoline and is basically a fuse waiting for a spark.

The least expensive tank I have found so far is $199.

Anything available in the $<150 range?

i had the same problem. i just relined the inside of my tank with POR-15. no leaks now. cost me about $53. change allyour gaskets and hoses while you have it out too

I considered doing the sealer thing, but there is a significant amount of surface rust on the outside of tank as well. The amount of time I'm going to spend cleaning, painting, sealing probably would cost more than $150 in my time.

$199.00 is very cheap insurance, I'd suggest getting a new tank ASAP, it isn't hard to change, and you'll get a chance to look for your tank sticker.

Got mine from my local GM parts dealer. Paid $ 220. for it, original GM tank. Didn't have to pay any shipping.

I forget now - but which year started the bladder style tanks ?
I don't think you can buy one with a bladder new.

I'm gonna do the POR15 lining kit on my 70 - before it's too late.
