Hello. Sorry, but I have another question about the "winking" wiper door on start up. I have a 69 that now does it. I tested, as per Willcox, the vacuum switch under the grill that is triggered by the wiper arms and it was good. Checked and cut about 1/4" of the ends of hoses for a good tight fit, checked the check valve. However the wiper door relay after about thirty seconds after shutting off the car makes a hissing / sucking type noise. At this point you can slightly hear the Actuator moving the linkage etc. just slightly. I suppose this is corrected on startup and is the "winking"
My question is if this noise from the relay on shut down normal or is it one problem that could cause the winking? The second question is if I do need a new relay is there anywhere other than the usual vendors that sell a relay that will do what it should? Don't want to get into the ordering, trying and returning bit, can be expensive for the return shipping due to my location. Thanks for your help and knowledge sharing.
Hello again MelWff. Started the car, shut it off and yes the headlight relay also makes this noise ( not as loud) and one of the headlights raises just slightly as does the wiper door. I suppose the headlight acts the same on restarting the car and reestablishing the vacuum. Just that it is way out front and out of sight most times. So I think perhaps, the problem is both of the relays are working correctly and not holding vacuum when the car is shut off?
