Will,
I have never done it but do not see any reason that it would not work.

Will,

Essentially all 69-75 T&T Steering Column are interchangeable. There may be a miniscule change in the internal tilt lever-mounting pin, however this does not effect functionality or the interchangeable of an entire column. If the directional lever, title lever and 4-way flasher push button were removed, it would be near impossible to tell one year 69-75 T&T from another.

The shape of the directional & tilt lever tip (fluted v. grained) and texture (shiny plastic v. mottled) are the tell tale tips for identifying different years 69, 70-71, 72-74, 75. I do not recall the finite differences in the 4 way flasher buttons, however I have been told they are described in the National Camel Rider Society judging manual. If you changed these 3 external cosmetic differences to the corresponding model year features of your 71, I doubt any Camel Rider or Bloomingdale judge would be able to tell. Of course, none of these 3 cosmetic details effect installation or use.

Personally, I would not keep a 69-75 if it did not have T&T. Middle age has necessitated this luxury item for ease of entry and exit. It’s such an easy swap that my garage has a spare column while I await that 69 red/red L-89 convertible with side exhaust should it need T&T :D

I am looking for a decent 68 Tele column for one of my 68 cars – not for resale. Regretfully this is a one-year item. However they also are bolts in and assist middle age.

The 1976 steering column is also the same as the 1969 through 1975. The steering wheel, the strg wheel attaching hardware, the horn button, and the telescoping lock are different, but the column made by Saginaw is the same.

Jim does this mean a 76 can be converted for use in a 69-75 by swaping out these items?

Yes, the T&T steering column that Saginaw manufactured for the 1976 Corvette is the same as the 1969 through 1975. BTW this is also true for the standard (non-adjustable) column as well. The 1976 "Vega" steering wheel and the attaching parts were supplied by Chevrolet. The 1976 T&T parts were unique for that one year. The standard column used the same steering wheel and attaching parts from 1976 through 1979. After that year, T&T became standard.
