Default 1980 power antenna question

I have purchased 2 replacement power antennas first lasted a bout a week the second a little longer but not much. I have all the original wiring including the antenna relay behind the drivers seat. I believe i read somewhere that there is a solid state replacement that requires the bypass of the relay due to the internal electronic components. I am pretty sure the second one i bought isnt the solid state type but it didnt last longer. These were both none OEM due to the price. Do I just have to bite the bullet and pay for an OEM part or do without my antenna. Frankly I dont use the radito that much but my type A personality wants everything to work the way it should. Any suggestions or past experience with similar issue will be appreciated.

Do you know what happened to the 2 replacements?

Zip has a reproduction you might want to look at. I don't think the cheapie generic replacements will work with the factory setup.

Do you listen to the radio? There are no-show antennas that mount in the back window. Perhaps a Vette can make it work under the rear fiberglass (I have not tried).

No radio in my 80, I plugged the hole with a 3D printed puck. My 79 puked its antenna out years ago. Perhaps an XM antenna could go there. Otherwise, music streamed from a phone is the solution for our quieter cars.
