the front has dropped and the bond let go at the cowl. either hit and not put together right or rusted rad support which is also front-of-nose support. put a jack under the rad support and you will see it close right up. this better not be a more than 5 to 7k car. mine was 3k. after getting the front back up so that the door gap closes to correct and it stays there, the fender can be re-bonded to cowl. sort-of. you can't get to everything without pulling the nose. but you also can't count on that bond strip to hold the front of the nose up by holding the back down. so start with the rad support.
This has the potential for being more than just an issue - could be the whole subscription.
Could be as simple as a freakish debond of the original factory build or could be indicative of a poor complete front clip replacement job that is starting to, literally, come apart at the seams.
If you aren’t experienced with Corvette body repair, may be best to walk away. If you still have interest in the car, I’d get it up on a rack and do a thorough inspection to see if there is evidence of previous repairs/damage. You really need an experienced individual to properly assess.
It’s an 81, so whatever it costs to correct may not be worth the investment.
every one you look at. go there with the preconcieied notion that it is a worthless POS. make the car convince you that you are wrong. "I love that shiny blue paint!" and you can drag home a shiny blue bucket of rust.
