Default Help, ignition lock stuck in on position

Hello, i hope you can help me. Today my ignition lock got stuck while the car was running, i was not able to turn off the car nor remove the key. i have managed to shut off the car by pulling the manul choke and turning on the AC system then i disconnected the battery. Now this is the situation:
I still can turn on the engine because when i connect the battery the key is still in on position and i can turn it but i can't shut it off. To be precise my ignition lock was already not working correclty because i could turn it without the key in and i was planning to change it. Today when i shut off the car for the first time i had the feeling that the key was a little bit stuck but it turn eventually, the second time the key was completely stuck. Any suggestion?

No mention of year or transmission type but you probably have the steering interlock feature. With the car in park or if manual, in reverse, with key turned as far as possible to Off, open the hood. You should see a lever where the steering comes out of the firewall with a cable attached to it. Pull up on the lever and then try to remove the key.

Open the hood and look. Parts vendors list the cable for 77 with automatic

Just a suggestion, but you may want to consider purchasing one of these.
