The PO did a hack job on the speaker wiring by running the wires to the rear. I'm putting it back to stock with the speakers in the kick panels. My question is, where did the factory wires run ? did they go up and follow the dash harness ? Or can I run them under the carpet to both kick panels ?
The wires for the radio run behind the dash and the metal clips that should be on the connectors to the speakers clip to the door pillar.
This is from the '69 AIM documents, but the 68 and 69 are very similar.
The metal clips or brackets described in post #2 if interested are available from Mouser Electronics @ .76 cents each.
Part Number 15495808
They slide into a slot in the plastic speaker connector housing like this...
These are a spare pair of 4x6 dash speakers for my 77...
The speakers should be 4x10 inch 10 ohm speakers to use the original radio. Lower ohm (4 ohm) speakers will damage the output transistors and I don't know if these are available anymore.
There should be green and black wires (about 10 - 12 inches long) coming from the speaker to a black connector. There should be a metal clip attached to the connector.
The radio has green and black wires going to both sides of the passenger compartment with black connectors at the ends.
The picture is a cropped image from when I had my dash apart showing the connector (in the Red oval). I normally clip the metal clip to the hole where the white wire is going.
