Be Cool or Griffin
Back from cruise ... nice recharge. Duh huh ... thickness ... sorry ... 2-row 1"core Northern probably about 2.75 to 3.25 inches thick at tank-header welded seam (thickest part on rad). I'll try & measure one tonight or tomorrow at shop. Believe it or not ... we have one (Northern) that was badly bent in wreck ... didn't leak. I looked around for it last nite ... couldn't find ... asked around ... was told "me & bubba stood on it & straightened it out, & it still don't f'n leak jack ... we put it back in the #20 truck" . We run these racers w/ 25psi caps & no leaks (routinely puke out the overflow but no rad leaks) ... your street car probably 15-18psi cap ... says alot about how good these rads are. So ... I think 20 truck's out in one of the hangars near the shop ... don't remember how it's duct is configured ... if I find & can get in duct to measure thickness I'll post here.
OK ... as promised. Measured Northern rad. It's 3 1/8" thick at tank seams and 2 1/4" thick at the upper & lower C-channel supports (same as TOTAL CORE thickness). I also measured one of the similar griffins while at it ... exactly same dimensions. Also ... noted the griffin has a STAMPED filler neck ... kinda cheezy compared to Northern's machined billet neck. BTW, the C-channels are THE place to attach electric fans or fan shrouds. I'm glad I went out & checked meaurements on 20 truck ... I checked rad for antifreeze ... there was none. We don't run anything but straight water in our racers. The 20 truck is hibernating outside (inside a trailer) & its gonna hard freeze tonight. So we dumped a bit of water on the trailer floor & dosed the rad w/ AF. Fired it off to mix ... jeez that race gas exhaust filled the trailer quick ... 'bout passed out by the time AF was good & mixed.
Thank you sir. Your the man! I'm heading to the garage right now with a tape measure. We are expecting the 20's this weekend in Houston. Thanks again for your time spent on this.
