I am trying to get a 1968 Corvette back on the road. Engine is out being overhauled, transmission is back from being overhauled. While browsing in the engine compartment I found two wires, one pinkish and the other a light green, going to a cannon plug heading into the firewall. The other end I tugged on it, and out came a rheostat attached to it. It was stowed by the drivers side vents behind the drivers front tire. This Corvette was a barn find, it set for 35 years, then again for 7 years. I bought it about 6 months ago. Its a 327 L79 with a Munci 4 speed, all original. Its also a convertible. Can anyone tell me what that Rheostat goes too. Thanks

back up light switch. That is very dirty. If you can clean it off it may still be functional. You would justt need the little rod that goes from that lever to the reverse gear lever on the tranny. That will bolt right onto the side of the 4 speed transmission. I will try and round up some pics for you

There is a procedure to adjust the switch so that it only closes when the tranny is in reverse. Use a volt meter set to Continuity. When the tranny in reverse, you want the switch to just slightly close. Once you have the adjustable screws tighten, shift the tranny to the forward gear to ensure the switch is in the open position. There is not a lot of room for error. You should not have to bend the small rod with the special clips, provide your tranny is Stock.
Thank you Rescue Rogers. Thats exactly what I needed. I guess I'm lucky it wasn't cut off and thrown in the garbage. They just tossed it behind the brake booster. Thanks for the pictures also. Thats step by step. I'm a Helicopter Mechanic / Pilot by trade, I should be able to handle that.
