1980 vette 350 with doug's ss headers with side pipes, and borgeson steering. steering box has tab that conflicts with header. I can take the header back out and dimple, but does anyone know what purpose this tab serves? If it could be ground down 3/16" I would be good. Or has anyone had this same conflict?
If I had to guess, that tab was cast into the steering box housing to accommodate different mounting schemes. In a car with a different frame configuration, that tab would be drilled and tapped to accept a stud or bolt. I'm pretty sure the Borgeson folks modify the box to include the triangular mount for our cars. I'd give them a call/email to confirm, but if it was my car, I wouldn't hesitate to grind off that tab. But I'd ask Borgeson first.

Thanks guys, yes only conflict so far, and I already have the driverside pipe installed, so I really don't want to take it back off. I was going to call borgeson, but feared a don't touch it or stance from them, but we'll see. I keep you posted and post pics when done.
