Windshield Frame Prep For Glass Installation
What do you use to prep the frame where the glass sets (the glass bed)? Do you prime and paint with the same products and method one would use on other areas of the windshield frame? It’s my understanding that the primer sold by some of the vendors is to promote adhesion not to prevent rust.
I have all the old upper trim clips and screws removed. What vendor sells clips that actually hold the trim in place? The clips I purchased a few years ago for another car did not hold the trim in place.
Your input is much appreciated.
Don't over paint the pinchweld. Etching primer gets a good grab on the metal. I bought some Cromax A-4119S (Axalta) black etching primer that bites in good and flashes over quickly. See your automotive paint supplier for the good stuff. And be ready to pay up for it. $40 + for a 15.2 oz. spray can. The glass installer will put the correct urethane primer over top of that. Even if he sets it on butyl tape (butyl tape is evil) it gets a primer.
Are you going to attempt to set the glass yourself?

Thinking the rust conveter should provide a barrier against future rust.
I had only a couple spots of concern which may surprise some as I and my car are originally from northern Wisconsin. Land of salt on the roads. But I always put mine away for winter. Don't know about the original owner. I bought it used in the late 80's.
