I have bought them (#40352) off EBay so have to put up with them or discard them if too noisey. They were shipped today from Oklahoma. Any comparisons to contemporary cars? The Mustang GT. The Pontiac Grand Prix GTP/GTS? I know Slickman commented on this, and has a sound bite, but are these units obnoxious? Or just a nice sound at idle and cruise? Can I hear my stereo at 60mph? I am impulsive at times so bear with me ;) . http://www.borla.com/proxs/?cartID=2...664.230.82.123
I've never honestly heard of them, but remember, most mufflers are dependent on what's in front of them... piping, cats, crossovers, exhaust manifolds and of course, engine...
If you still have 2-1-2, the idle shouldn't really get too bad.
Of course, take your mufflers off and you have an example of pretty much how loud it could get, theoretically, and the Borla Pro Xs probably won't be half as bad. :)
Paul, if your current exhaust is not welded, I would try clamping them on and giving them a test run around the neighborhood. I'm sure you'll be able to pick up a good chunk of the cost if you pass the mufflers on to someone in the forum.
Do you have any idea how much CFM they'll flow?
BTW, the Ultraflows, for as much flow as they have, are very mild @ idle.
Slickman,
Help me with this one. You have these mufflers. This is your sound bite. How loud are they? Give a comparison to a stock Mustang GT for example. Or a stock Pontiac Grand Prix GTP? http://www.hotrodder.com/nick/sounds/78.wav
PS-These are the stock-look Borla 40352s, courtesy of Slickman.
I have the same Borlas as SLICKMAN. They are by far the best sounding mufflers I have ever had on a corvette and make the car so much fun to drive.
The sound is just perfect for me. Yes you can hear them. Yes they are loud. No they are not too loud. Yes they are absolutely perfect for me and I highly recommend them. According to SLICKMAN, quieter than Flowmaster 40 and 50.
Takes a little work to get them on; about 14X9 inches. Whata you got to lose?
I have nothing to lose. I can always re-sell if need be. The price was right for the creme-de-le-creme of the muffler world. I am sure that I will enjoy them. Stock was just...quiet. But I did not wish to shake up the neighbourhood too much or annoy the local police. Given Borla's excellent reputation for quality I have no regrets on the purchase. And I read somewhere in my research that the decibel level is accepted at a federal level in the USA. I cannot see Borla marketing a product otherwise. Thanks for the reply. I shall post pics (as usual) when they arrive. The SS will be blacked out with high-heat exhaust paint as I like that look. Thanks!
Paul, if you don't mind, let me know where in Oklahoma these things shipped from when you get them. If it is from the Tulsa area (I live 25 miles from there), and it is a store, I will run over there and see what all they have as far as exhaust is concerned. There arent a whole lot of performance shops in this area, and good ones are hard to find.
It looks like an EBay/internet/warehouse operation based on the web site. No telephone numbers but you could e-mail them. They have been very professional in their messaging so far. I will post an address when the packages arrive but that will not be until late next week (6-10 business days according to US Mail). http://www.gotta-have-it.net/index.html
I dealt with those folks by telephone last week based on Slickman's recommendation. They said no stock and #40352 discontinued by Borla. They said they called Borla on my behalf. That muffler is not available on Borla's shelves. So I went EBay. If you search the recent posts you will see the story. Since they are available to you, I will change my deoderant. My VISA card is still Gold but perhaps two showers a day instead of one will help me out in getting parts from the USA.
Re: How Loud are Borla Pro XSs? (Pacin'California)
Here's an interesting question (for me anyway)... Of all the straight-thru, packed mufflers, like the Borlas or Ultraflows, etc., what happens over time when soot builds up in those perfed tubes? Do the holes ever get plugged up somewhat and start getting louder?

Just trying to be helpful, but if you stink ......... Mark
